A passion for helping our Asheville neighbors

There’s a blue house on a corner in Asheville.

OUR STORY

It’s Anna and Justin’s house. The kind with a front porch that actually gets used, and a yard where people linger. On random afternoons, you’ll find the three of us—Natalie, Anna, and Justin—out there together. A few neighbors, a couple of dogs, some kids doing cartwheels.

We talk about the things that matter and process what’s going on in our lives. During Helene, it became a meeting place for our little corner of the neighborhood. A place to share news, resources, and emotional support. It was during that time we realized what a special place our little corner house is.

Eventually, these neighborly relationships revealed something else. We recognized a need for our Asheville friends to feel legally protected in the long-term. Protection for the assets they’ve worked so hard for, for the kids and grandkids they love so much. A yearning for a sense of peace and comfort that quiets those 3am worries.

So many people in our community don’t have these protections, and the three of us have the skills to help. How could we not?

In essence, we just want to do good legal work for good people. We started with our friends and neighbors, and are honored to now be helping the larger Asheville community. To us, you’re not just a legal matter, or a number on a file. We actually care about our clients, their families, and making this aspect of their lives a little bit easier.

Understand what you’re doing — and why

OUR APPROACH

Our goal is to create educated consumers; to help you understand not only what you need, but how it all works.

Because when it comes down to it, this stuff isn’t that complicated. A lot of law firms make it seem more complicated than it is to justify high prices and a lengthy, drawn-out process.

We take a simpler approach, and pass that simplicity on to our clients. Yes, you have to organize some paperwork and think about some hard questions, but that’s really the most difficult part. The legal services you’re getting shouldn’t be the complicated part.

This work doesn’t need to feel transactional or intimidating. It can feel like sitting down with someone you trust, and figuring it out together.

A small team, by design

Our firm might look different than the big, traditional legal firms you’re familiar with. We’re a small team of three, with low overhead, a quick and nimble approach, and a fresh take on what estate planning can look like.

We’re all experienced professionals who share a passion for helping people in ways that really matter to their lives, and the lives of their loved ones.

Natalie McCann, Attorney at Law

I am a licensed attorney in the state of North Carolina with over fifteen years of experience working in both corporate law and private practice. I specialize in drafting and negotiating contracts and have worked for several Fortune 500 companies as well as smaller start-ups in the biomedical, pharmaceutical, and life sciences fields. I started my own practice in 2020 offering bespoke legal services to individuals as well as corporations, providing legal risk management by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating agreements and advising my clients regarding contract best practices for their respective industries and small businesses.

In 2026, I established Corner House Law alongside Justin and Anna to meet a need in the Asheville community for a neighborhood estate planning firm. I bring my wealth of knowledge and experience in contracts and risk management to help you draft the most important legal agreement of all—your estate plan.

When I am not practicing law, I like to be outdoors as much as possible with my yellow lab, Ham. I enjoy hiking, running, skiing, and am an avid reader of law and psychology topics. I grew up in the Appalachian Mountains and am happy to call Asheville home.

Justin Laman, Head of Client Success

For the past several years, I've helped individuals and families create estate plans that provide clarity, protection, and peace of mind. I'm passionate about educating clients because estate planning is full of questions that most people have never been taught to ask. My goal is to ensure every family understands not just what they're signing, but why it matters.

Prior to this work, I founded an education company that grew into an Inc. 1000 business, partnering with universities including the University of Virginia, UCLA, and Tufts to help students and families navigate the college selection process. That experience taught me how to simplify complex topics and guide people through important life decisions with confidence.

After selling the company in 2019 following my own cancer diagnosis, estate planning became deeply personal. I realized that a great estate plan isn't just about passing on your assets—it's about protecting you while you're living and giving your loved ones the legal tools to care for you when it matters most.

When I'm not helping clients, you'll usually find me cheering on the Asheville Tourists with my daughter, growing giant sunflowers, or exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains in search of chanterelles, black trumpets, and lion's mane mushrooms.

Anna Laman, Business Operations Manager

Over the past 20 years, my career has woven through many roles: from grant writing for nonprofits to content strategy for digital marketing agencies to consulting for small businesses — all centered on helping companies communicate clearly and work with purpose.

Along the way, I’ve discovered a true passion for designing systems that make business operations run smoothly. I bring that focus and care to my work at Corner House Law, assisting with day-to-day organizational tasks, marketing strategy and implementation, and operational processes.
